Overview:

The Fictional tale, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, is about two little Boys who gain friendship through their worlds’ inequalities. This book was written by John Boyne in 2006, and was made into a major motion picture in 2008. The book gives you a better understanding of what a little boy in a world of horror during the Holocaust went through. It begins with a boy named Bruno, who liked to explore. Forced to move from his beloved home in Berlin, Bruno becomes bored in his new home, which he refers to as, “Out-with”. While exploring outside the boundaries one day, he comes upon a boy. This boy’s name is Shmuel, a Jewish boy stuck in a concentration camp as an inmate. We learn that these two boys are both nine years old and desperate for friendship. They always talked about wanting to play together but there was a fence blocking that from happening. The story chronicles this extraordinary friendship.

 

Review:

The book kept us wanting to read more. It had an interesting background story, especially since it was linked to the concentration camps during the Holocaust. We recommend the book to anybody who really enjoys a heart felt story. It gives you a chance to relate to a child's perspective living during that time period.
