Overview:
The Giver is about a close knit community that believes in "sameness." Jonas, the 12 year old main character, has lived his life believing complete dominace from the governement over the citizens in the community is okay. In the ceremony of tweleve where the children learn what their future careers will be, Jonas is picked to be the next Giver. The Giver is the person who holds all of the past memories within the community before they converted to "sameness." Both Jonas and the current Giver embark on a journey from transferring all of the Giver's memories into Jonas' mind. The more Jonas and the Giver start to talk and become more open with each other, the more they start to realize that all of the community should have all the memories and be able to share them with one another. With the help of the Giver, Jonas decides to runaway and find an "elsewhere," where there are memories, emotions, color , ect... But the question is, is there an "elsewhere?"
Review:
This book was interesting to read but the climax was a little disappointing. Overall, this book is great for people who are interested in science fiction and futuristic worlds. If you saw the movie and liked it, then you'll like the book because it goes into more detail. The book brings up interesting thoughts to ponder.
